Glider Competition: About
AEROGLIDE: AEROGLIDE is an unpowered, hand-launched glider design and flight competition organized by Mechismu Racing Electric as part of Concetto , the annual techno-management fest of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. Participants will design and build a fixed-wing glider strictly using foam sheet and chart paper , defend their aerodynamic design before an expert technical panel, and launch their aircraft on the field to maximize flight time and distance.
Dimensional Envelope: The entire aircraft must fit free-standing within a 700 700 300 mm gauge box in flight configuration.
Maximum Weight: 750 g (All-Up Mass).
Allowed Materials: Foam sheet and chart paper only.
Prohibited Devices: Propulsion systems, stored energy (motors, rubber bands, springs), dynamic wings, variable geometry, tethers, or detachable parts.
Cost Cap: Maximum budget is ₹1,500 (supported by a verified Bill of Materials). Evaluation & Scoring
Criteria (Total: 50
Marks): Technical Defence (20 Marks) 6-min presentation + 3-min Q&A before a technical panel. Assessment of design rationale (planform, aspect ratio, aerofoil, dihedral trade-offs), structural analysis (CG placement, static margin, wing loading), build quality, and Q&A defense. Practical Flight Competition (20 Marks) 5 attempts total (split between declared TIME and DISTANCE attempts). Hand-launched standing throw from a 4 3 m launch box inside a 60 24 m flight corridor. Score formula normalized against the best day performances. Cost Efficiency (10 Marks) Evaluated based on the submitted Bill of Materials (BOM).
Important Rules: Every team must submit a BOM during scrutineering. Unlisted materials will incur a penalty and re-valuation. Repaired or rebuilt gliders must pass re-scrutineering before the next attempt. The Chief Marshal's and Technical Panel's decisions are final.
Rewards & Recognition: Certificate of Participation for all shortlisted teams. Cash prizes and trophies for the Winners and Runners-Up .
