BigRed//Hacks is Cornell University's largest student-run hackathon, a weekend-long event where students build hardware or software projects, attend workshops, and learn from mentors. Since its inception in 2014, the organization has been on a mission to foster technological innovation by creating an inclusive and collaborative environment. BigRed//Hacks is committed to lowering barriers to entry into technology, ensuring that all participants, regardless of background, have access to the resources they need.
The event features several competition tracks: * Main Track: Judged on technical skill, design, creativity, impact, and theme. * Hardware Track: An optional track focused on hardware use and technical implementation. * Software Track: An optional track focused on software development and technical depth. * Beginner Track: Specifically for first-time hackers, rewarding the best overall beginner project. * People's Choice: A track voted on by participants for their favorite project overall. * Design Track: An optional track evaluating design quality and visual presentation.
BigRed//Hacks is open to all university students aged 18 or older, regardless of major or experience level. Participants can form teams of up to four people or sign up solo; team matching events are hosted before and during the hackathon to help individuals find collaborators. The event takes place annually each fall (e.g., October 2nd - 4th) on Cornell University's Ithaca Campus. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and overnight accommodations are provided throughout the weekend.
