Code for Humanity is a global online hackathon that empowers innovators to build technology for social good. We bring together students, developers, designers, and changemakers to create impactful solutions that address real-world challenges faced by underserved communities.
Maybe you've never built anything before. Maybe you've tinkered a little but never finished something. Maybe you're just curious about AI and want to see what the fuss is about. Wherever you're starting from — you belong here.
The challenge involves innovations that address real-world issues like disaster response, low-income or rural areas, people with disabilities, refugees and displaced populations, under-resourced schools, marginalized groups, and regions with limited access to healthcare, education, digital technology, or financial services. Create a product that empowers people who are often overlooked. Your solution should improve quality of life, expand access to opportunities, or remove barriers for underserved.
Do I need a team? Nope. Solo is totally fine. But if you want to team up with others, that's great too. Some of the best projects come from two people with completely different skills working together.
Requirements * What to Build: Build a technology solution that improved the life of undeserved or underrepresented communities. Your solution should address a real world problem, increase accessibility, reduce inequality, or create new opportunities through tech. * Demo Video: Provide a short video (maximum 3 minutes) demonstrating how your product works. * Code Repository: Include a link to your public GitHub (or similar) repository with your project's code. * New Work: All code must be written during the hackathon period. You may use open-source libraries and frameworks.
Prizes * Certificate of Participation: In recognition of their enthusiastic participation in Code for Humanity. * Best Beginner Project: For an impressive first build from someone new to this. * Most Innovative Project: For the boldest, most original idea. * Most Practical Project: For a project with clear real-world value. * Best Overall Project: In recognition of exceptional innovation, technical excellence, and meaningful social impact.
Judging Criteria * Impact (30%): Does the solution solve real world problem. * Innovation (25%): Is the idea creative, unique or novel? * Technical Excellence (20%): Quality of implementation, engineering and functionality. * User Experience & Accessibility (15%): Ease of use, intuitive design, accessibility, and overall user experience. * Scalability & Sustainability (10%): Can the solution grow and continue creating value over time?
