Overview: “Food Forensics” is an interactive two-round event designed to test participants’ sensory skills, food knowledge, and practical understanding of food adulteration. The event begins with a Sensory Identification Round, followed by a Food Adulteration Detection Round for participants who qualify in the first round. The event combines sensory evaluation with practical food safety knowledge.
Event Objective: To develop participants’ sensory evaluation skills and practical knowledge of food adulteration. To create awareness about food quality, food safety, consumer protection, and the health risks associated with adulterated food.
Event Description: The event will be conducted in two rounds.
Sensory Identification Round: The first round will test the sensory skills and general food knowledge of participants. Participants will be provided with different food samples and will have to identify the products based on taste, aroma, appearance, and texture. Only participants who qualify in the first round will proceed to the second round.
Food Adulteration Detection Round: Qualified participants will proceed to the food adulteration detection round. Participants will be provided with food samples containing common adulterants. Participants must identify the adulterant, explain the test performed, and interpret the result. Participants may also be asked to explain the possible health risks associated with the detected adulteration.
Sensory Identification Round: Accurate identification of food products based on sensory characteristics. Ability to observe and distinguish taste, aroma, appearance, and texture.
Food Adulteration Detection Round: Correct identification of the adulterant present in the food sample. Correct performance and application of the given food testing method. Understanding of the health hazards associated with food adulteration.
Rules & Regulations: The event will be conducted in two rounds. All participants will participate in Round 1, and only qualified participants will proceed to Round 2. Participants must follow the instructions given by the event coordinators. All testing procedures in Round 2 must be performed using the methods provided by the coordinators. Use of external resources or internet search is prohibited.
