GirlHacks is a 24-hour hackathon hosted by the Women in Computing Society at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. It takes place within "The Grove," a dedicated tech ecosystem designed to be an inclusive sanctuary where logic meets creativity and community flourishes. The event's mission is to empower women and non-binary tech innovators to collaborate, learn, and showcase their craft.
Whether you are writing your first line of code or deploying complex architectures, everyone belongs here. Supported by industry mentors, hands-on technical workshops, and a collaborative network, the event provides the resources needed to build ideas from the ground up. GirlHacks aims to be a first-time friendly hackathon for students of all ages, ensuring participants have support throughout the entire event.
Participation & Inclusivity All genders and identities are welcome to attend; however, the primary focus remains on supporting women and non-binary hackers. Attendees can participate alone or join a team through a dedicated team-building session if they do not arrive with one. The core challenge is building something new from scratch.
Format & Requirements The event will be held in person, featuring virtual activities as well. Participants should bring a form of identification, a laptop, and a charger. A reusable water bottle and overnight essentials are also recommended. Free overnight parking is available at the NJIT parking deck (42 Wilsey St, Newark, NJ). The event adheres to the MLH Code of Conduct.
