HackRU is a 24-hour hackathon held at Rutgers University, welcoming hundreds of students to build awesome software and hardware projects. Industry experts and mentors from across the country join to foster an atmosphere of learning through tech talks and one-on-one guidance. The event encourages both beginner and advanced hackers to challenge themselves and expand their creative, technical, and collaboration skills.

Additionally, there are various sponsor prizes available for participants.
Eligibility and Participation HackRU welcomes undergraduate and graduate students of all majors, backgrounds, and skill levels. High school students who will be 18 by HackRU are also allowed to register; however, those under 18 cannot attend. Hackers are encouraged to work in teams of up to four people. A team-building exercise will be held after opening ceremonies for individuals looking for teammates.
Format and Schedule The Fall 2026 HackRU will be held on October 10-11 at the Busch Student Center. Registration is free. Participants are accepted based on a first-come, first-served basis, with team formations used for waitlist priority. Once registered, applicants receive a notification regarding their acceptance status 1-2 weeks before the event.
