&Hacks XII (2026) is a free, weekend-long tech event taking place from September 25–27. The theme for this year is "AI & imagination = imaginAItion," focusing on how artificial intelligence promotes endless avenues of creativity, project building, and integration across various academic disciplines. Hackers are encouraged to explore the intersection of AI with fields such as linguistics, chemistry, and beyond.
The event is open to students regardless of coding experience; in fact, some of the best projects have historically come from teams of non-CS participants. Attendees can work on projects individually or form teams via the Discord server or team-building workshops held during the event. While participants can compete for prizes, there is no pressure to submit a project immediately; unfinished projects may be completed after the hackathon concludes. High schoolers are welcome to attend but note that organizers cannot chaperone minors.
&Hacks features free food, free merchandise, and opportunities to connect with industry professionals. Participants are allowed to use AI in their projects, adhering to the Major League Hacking Code of Conduct. For those who do not wish to build a project, the event offers workshops and a supportive community atmosphere. Questions can be directed to computing@wm.edu.
