HopHacks is the 36-hour annual premier Hackathon held at Johns Hopkins University in the fall. It provides a fast-paced environment that encourages engineers, designers, and entrepreneurs to explore new ideas and create new software or hardware applications within a short timeframe.
Hackers compete for prizes in tracks sponsored by various organizations. Participants enjoy free food, receive cool merch, and make memories that last a lifetime.
Eligibility Any university student enrolled in any undergraduate or graduate program may apply to hack. High school students are not eligible to participate. Selected applicants will be notified via email closer to the hackathon date.
Team Formation A team matching process occurs after hackers are accepted. Participants may form teams of up to four hackers or compete solo. Additionally, team matching events will be hosted at the start of the hackathon.
Location & Format This year, HopHacks is held fully in-person at Hodson Hall and the Glass Pavilion on the Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus in Baltimore, MD. Virtual attendance is not available. Parking passes will be distributed to participants on the Sunday morning of the event.
Food & Logistics At registration, all participants receive a wristband which must be visible when obtaining food; without it, food cannot be accessed. Individual travel reimbursements are not offered, though a busing interest form is available for those hoping to join a group bus from their area.
