MakeCU 2026 is a 24-hour hardware hackathon organized by the Columbia University Robotics Club, taking place on November 7-8, 2026, at Carleton Commons in New York City. Designed for students who want to design, prototype, and demo real hardware projects, this in-person event invites participants to build something physical during a focused weekend.
Who Can Participate The event is intended for college hackers ranging from undergraduate to PhD students. Beginners are welcome; workshops and mentors will be available to help participants learn during the event. Teams must consist of 1-4 students.
Tracks Participants can focus their projects on specific themes, such as the Healthcare Track, which challenges teams to design robotic systems that improve physical or mental health, accessibility, safety, or quality of life.
Format & Resources Hackers can begin building after the opening ceremony. The event provides food, swag, hardware, tools, and access to makerspaces. Participants are required to complete the necessary makerspace training and equipment checklist before arriving.
Cost & Prizes MakeCU is free to attend. Food, swag, hardware, and prizes will be provided to all participants.
