OwlHacks is Temple University's annual, student-organized hackathon. First hosted in 2019, the event has received outstanding projects, turnout, and support from sponsors and the university.
The hackathon takes place over two days, featuring a packed schedule of workshops, networking opportunities, and competitive events. Participants can attend sessions on using GitHub Copilot, Google AI Studio, and integrating open-source static analysis tools for code security. Front-end focused workshops cover building websites quickly with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, as well as deploying apps to modern hosting platforms. Backend enthusiasts can join beginner-friendly Python workshops to add server-side functionality to their projects.
Beyond technical learning, OwlHacks offers chances to network with the Temple tech community, meet club representatives, and speak with engineers from major companies like NVIDIA, Microsoft, Capital One, and AWS about careers and industry growth. The event also includes fun activities such as a Type Racing Tournament and a unique painting session inspired by Bob Ross.
On Sunday, participants submit their projects on Devpost, visit sponsor booths, and participate in judging. The event concludes with a closing ceremony to celebrate the end of the hackathon and announce the winners.
