SBUHacks is Stony Brook University's largest yearly hackathon, a competition where teams of students come together to create innovative and themed projects from scratch. In previous years, the event has brought together hundreds of students for hours of innovation, collaboration, and creative problem-solving.
No experience is needed—whether you're a seasoned developer or someone who will write their first line of code, SBUHacks offers a chance to build something amazing, learn new skills, and connect with fellow creators. The organizers provide pizza, swag, and prizes; participants bring their ideas and enthusiasm.
Eligibility To participate in the October 2026 hackathon, attendees must be over the age of 18 and meet one of the following criteria: - Enrolled at any level of study at a traditional institution (high school, college, etc.). - Enrolled at any level of study at a nontraditional institution (coding boot camp, home school, online, etc.). - Graduated from any of the above institutions in the past year.
Note that 80% of spots are reserved for those who meet these requirements.
