Technica is the world's largest hackathon celebrating underrepresented genders in tech, hosted annually at the University of Maryland. This fall, participants are invited to leave behind the shoreline and submerge themselves in innovation as they explore the boundless potential of tech.
Format and Participation Technica is a hybrid hackathon, meaning participants can choose to attend either in-person or virtually. The in-person event will be held at The College Park Marriott, while the virtual event takes place on Gather. All participants are eligible for the same prizes, workshops, and activities regardless of their chosen mode of attendance.
Teams of 1-4 people can create their own projects to submit for prizes. Participants can build using hardware, software, or anything else with other hackers. No coding experience is required; students of all skill levels are encouraged to attend, even if they have never written a line of code. A beginner track is available to help new coders start their tech journey.
Activities and Tracks The weekend is packed with: * Hacking: Build apps, robots, websites, or any idea you can imagine. * Networking: Connect with other participants, mentors, and companies. * Workshops: Learn new skills, tools, and technologies in interactive sessions. * Mini-events: Join fun games and activities throughout the weekend. * Volunteering: Bring hacker ideas to life by sharing expertise or supporting operations (open to anyone 18+).
Inclusivity and Mission While Technica celebrates underrepresented genders, people of all genders are welcome. The event aims to create a welcoming environment where hackers can build cool projects and share their stories. Technica is fully open to all with no segregation between groups, preferential treatment based on gender, quotas, reserved spots, or special judging criteria favoring specific groups.
