UofTHacks is Canada's first student-run hackathon, organized annually by students at the University of Toronto. The event brings together over 500 innovators, developers, designers, and entrepreneurs for a memorable 36-hour in-person experience dedicated to transforming dreams into reality.
The hackathon fosters an inclusive environment where participants from unique backgrounds collaborate to craft unique and meaningful projects. Whether you are a coding expert or a beginner, high school and university students are welcome to join. The event provides workshops and mentorship to help participants build their projects, emphasizing that design and business aspects are just as important as coding.
Format and Participation: - Duration: 36 hours. - Location: Hosted entirely in-person (e.g., at the Myhal Centre). - Team Size: Teams can have up to 4 hackers. Applications are individual, but teams can be formed before or during the event via Discord channels. - Eligibility: Open to high school and university students regardless of experience level. Mentors must be at least 18 years old with relevant tech industry experience. - Rules: All work on submitted projects must be done during the event. Projects must include a public GitHub repository; violations result in disqualification.
Cost and Logistics: The event is completely free. Participants receive food, snacks, and access to the venue for the entire duration. While sleeping places are provided within the venue, on-site sleeping accommodations are not available, so attendees should bring essentials for an overnight stay. Travel reimbursements are not provided.
Prizes and Judging: Specific prizes may have team member requirements announced during opening ceremonies. To be considered for judging, all members of a team must be present in-person.
